1. Why is Faqir Chand’s experiences important in understanding the projective nature of religious visions and miracles?
Faqir Chand ultimately believed in ultimate self-awareness. In order to really know oneself you have to reach a state of awareness. His experiences are important in understanding the projective nature of religious visions an miracles because these visions come from within ones' self. In The Unknowing Sage, one quote states that Faqir Chand believed "in the highest stages of development man does not develop a keen sense of omniscience, but a radical irrevocable understanding of unknowingness." (p. i). He believed that theses visions people would see, such as near death experiences, were not in fact visions of God or such, but visions created by their own mind, and their brain was tricking them into thinking it was some sort of vision or miracle.
2. What is meant by the phrase, “philosophy done well is science; philosophy done poorly remains philosophy.”
This phrase "philosophy done well is science; philosophy done poorly remains philosophy" means that philosophy done well is science because an idea that came from philosophical thinking can be proven true with a theory or studied with facts. And ultimately this science leads to more knowledge for our society and helps advance forward. Philosophy done poorly, means that it cannot be proven true with a theory, does not contribute to society, and cannot be studied and further looked into. But it is still a philosophical idea to be pondered. According to the video The Remainder Conjecture states "we exhaust any and all physical explanations first before succumbing to..."transcendental temptation"... and opt for super mundane explanations." meaning that with these philosophical ideas we first must lppk to all sciences and its explanations before deeming the idea "poor philosophy."
