1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
The theory of evolution is an explanation about how humans have developed through out the years. Human behavior will change in accordance of where they are located and depending on the circumstances it lives in. Natural selection is said to be changes in our evolution according to the environment we live in. It is a mater of the “fittest” or “strongest” that can survive. Mentioned in the book The DNA of Consciousness page 6, “It is under this severe testing that we can start to see how certain adaptations are better suited than others”. Each generation has a different way of living, whenever a new offspring is born it must learn to adapt to its new environment. First, when being in the mother’s womb, then once it is born it must learn to grasp on to the new environment. Many will survive, but there is always a chance some wont adapt.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
The Evolutionary theory can explain how humans have evolved through out time, but it cannot explain how humans think or how each person develops its own personality. It would be very interesting if we could have answers to how a person can develop different personalities. For example why are some people nicer than others or why some people can be selfish, are they taught that? Is it the environment they live? A person’s consciousness cannot change as easily as Natural Selection, because a person’s brain is thinking at all times and can drastically change to other thoughts instantly. Some humans may be content with life and think positive, as maybe others are discontent with life and think about suicide. It would be very difficult to be able to identify a human beings thought process with a simple theory.
