Why is understand physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
Physics plays an important role in philosophy because it helps prove fact from fiction. Physics allows us to obtain proof of theories or judgments based on scientific fact. Even though some scientific theories are not proven, like the String Theory, people have used these theories to grasp an idea of the universe without the use of religion. Likewise, the philosophy of nature cannot be proven using physics because physics cannot explain nature, but it can explain what we think of nature as proven by Bohr when he states "...it is wrong to think that the task of physics is to find out how Nature is. Physics concerns what we say about nature" (23). The general rules of the universe are important when understanding philosophy because we can use the rules as guidelines in understanding philosophical ideas. Being able to understand all the general rules also shows a sign of intelligence as proven by this statement "This sort of reminds me of F. Scott Fitzgerald who said that the sign on an intelligent mind is the ability to hold two contradictory ideas at the same time and still function.
What is Eliminative Materialism?
Eliminative Materialism is a phenomenon that cannot be explained by the use of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, or sociology which then is concluded as God's work. Eliminative materialism also teaches us to abandon the ideas of mystical beings, spirits, and even gods and instead started to believe in electromagnetic currents. heat waves, bacteria and viruses, more reasonable conclusions. This has also caused some people to change the way they think about everything, wondering what causes people to believe in such things, act certain ways, as well as knowing how emotions work. People are generally logical which means that they always try to find a reasonable explanation to what they understand and if they can't then it is considered dangerous and people tend to be afraid of it, hence the term, "People fear what they don't know." For others, their religion is their guide because of the many generations and teachings that have occurred, this means that they usually rely on God(s) to answer there prayers in their time of need.
