1. Socrates was sentenced to death because he refused to accept the gods that the city accepts and follow the beliefs they have, he also was charged with and bringing in new idols. His death was the result of his asking theoretical and questions. Socrates believed that the lord created him to pass on a message to the Athens People. He believed the message was that the people were living the wrong way, having the wrong views, and they should focus on their souls and not things of this world like: family, finances, politics, materialistic things, and world like responsibilities. Socrates was passionate about the condition of peoples souls. He gave his life for his principles and he rejected to renounce his way of life. they hated him because he did not claim to know what he did not know. They sentenced him to die but changed their mind and told him that he was free to go. He told them that he wants to die because he believed that it was his time and experienced everything that life had to offer. So really it was his choice to die on his own free will.
2. Science and religion are in conflict because they each represent opposite ideals. Science is about how nature controls how the universe works. Its more about logic. religion is about how God controls how the universe works. Religion has tried to kill scientific thinking, logic, or theories. Religion matters little in a world that's spinning out of control. It lacks consistency and evidence for its beliefs. Religion knowledge has to be learned through own experience. Unless you see it or feel it you will not believe. Science has tried to get rid of religious meanings and the existence of God by development theories and philosophical thinking. nowadays scientists believe that faith is a gift. Science takes up the big theories and break them into little parts and then comes to conclusions based on how the concrete realities are organized. The scientist works in the labs and behind the scenes while religious teacher works from life experiences and world situations. Science explores the natural world and religion focuses on the spiritual and supernatural aspects.
