WEEK 1 QUESTIONS :
1. Why was Socrates sentenced to death?
At the age of 70 years old who knew a bunch of Athenians Socrates was sentenced to death. He had to stand in front of the jury in front of 500 people who accused him of “refusing to recognize the gods recognized by the state of corrupting the youth. If Socrates were found guilty his punishment would have been death penalty. The most interesting part was when Socrates had three Athenian citizens show the jury all the evidence and their part of the case for three hours. At the end they gave Socrates three hours to defend himself on how and why he should not receive the death penalty. So many people were not supporting him and turning their backs on him. After hearing both sides of the case the jury was asked to vote on what Socrates consequences should be. His accusers wanted Socrates to have the death penalty and that’s what the jury have him. When he was taken to the jail, an Athenian law of “his defense, however, avails him nothing, and he is condemned by the judges to die by drinking the poisonous hemlock”(2).
2. Why is there a conflict (for some) between science and religion?
I also do wonder why “certain religious persuasion are so troubled by science reduction of man to mere material, given that matter itself was and is as mysterious and as glorious as anything conjured up in our spiritual imaginations” (2). Also it mentions written that “science is not a thing but a process of discovery”. But it’s just “continues being made of littler things that jiggle”. You have to grow from something small and as the process is being made it will become bigger and better. As said in the book “Those who are not shocked when they first come across quantum theory cannot possibly have understood it”. (–Niels Bohr) As we look into every part of the matter we find out that there is no essence and its something that can be related to our common sense. The science of the consciousness must always start from the brain

WEEK 2 QUESTIONS
1. Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
Physics and general rules to the universe are important because philosophy deals with reason, ultimately and the mind which all means life. Physics rotates every facts of the universe so it can become easier when it time to know philosophy. Understanding and knowing the subjects and material of what’s important that help to fully understand philosophy. It pursues questions more willingly than answers. Were supposed to question what the answers we figured out. Philosophy is the study of fundamental problems, which are connected to existence, reality, values, knowledge, reason, language and mind. Philosophy and physics remain the actual different topics but when you use them they help solve a question. Comprehending how physics and the rules of the universe assistances one to have a better viewpoint of what is being explains and with that the broader the perspective will be.
2. What is eliminative materialism? Provide three examples of it.
Eliminative Materialism is trying to find something out by understanding the means of science/ and or math to get an answer other than just saying something common and easy. It’s all about going through what you already know in all science before giving up on the question and not continuing to find out what the answer is. As in the “ Death of Thor Part II, some example are concepts of being replace by a role of electromagnetic currents. It cans cause illness of being replaced with knowledge of bacteria. The second example is “ Inter theoretic reductionism by going from “Thor” to electrical magnetic currents in storms”. Its been known that some questions have nit been answered and they blame philosophers.

desiree, i like what you posted about why soctates was sentenced to death. I agree that he was persecuted for dishonoring his society and there beliefs. Everyone being against him was sad and unfair because everyone should repect people belief even if the society thinks otherwise. Also yes religous people do believe that the good and bad things are Gods will and see no need to question it. And yes this ongoing conflict comes from misinterpreting the others views and beliefs and the subjects are so indepth humans cannot fully understand it.

WEEK 3 QUESTIONS
1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
The theory of evolution is important because it an interpretation how human behavior is really. The human behaviors show us how we turn out to be in the future and how our reactions and behavior traits will be. The entire theory of the evolution is there are always causes for change and improvement in us. Every characteristic in ourselves are familiarize with our surroundings. We also bring in many new traits good and bad and we learn from them and know how to keep and get rid of good and bad ones. Us as people have to develop efficient and adapt to the environment. The theory isn’t just all about traits or genes its also about intelligence, beauty and body structure and its also work ethics and morals. We also have to compete in contradiction against others and live through usual disasters and live through them. Human Behavior is influenced by our culture.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
Some of the questions that I have are a common question that everyone almost wants to ask and its How did life originate? It’s been said that the “we really don’t know how life originated onto this planet”. Since there are many different ways it was brought into life that was invented by God, which started small but eventually as time have progress everything just went up and started life. The second question is Why did God create only two genders and who came first Female or Male?

Week 4 Questions:
1. Explain the virtual simulation theory of consciousness.
The virtual simulation theory of cociounsess explains a belief that everything we see is not real and basically it’s all in our heads. When we use our minds or our consciousness we may see things that are not real. Consciousness implicates thoughts, sensations, perceptions, moods, emotions, dreams and self-awareness. In the video, Disneyland of Consciousness” the guy goes onto the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and his friend things everything is real in the ride such as the pirates and the shooting scene. When it was explained, to the friend the friend understood that it was all-fake and a robot that makes the ride look real. Otherwise, our consciousness is the only sanity for thinking we exist. Without it there are no beliefs, sensations or experience of being. This shows that our consciousness is all in our heads and it’s all just an illusion to make things funnier and your adrenaline going, which makes life fun in my opinion.
2. How does the brain trick us and for what benefit is it for our genetic survival? Be sure to support your answers with references to the required readings and films.
I think that our brain tricks us by as reading the book “The Cerebral Mirage”, they describe the cerebral mirage as things that may look like its there but in reality its not. Its also gives misleading information which its opinion of knowledge and certainty. We basically know it’s our brain that imagines something that’s actually not real. Such as in “The Disneyland of Consciousness” during the Pirate of the Caribbean ride, the little boy saw something that he thought was real, but it was just his mind thinking it was real. His brain was making tricks with him because with the lights shining on the pirates, it made the pirates realistic when it was just a fake robot but looks human. Our brain tricks us because its part of genetic survival, which helps us, gets through things and whether knowing what’s real a fake in our world we live in.

WEEK 5 QUESTIONS:
1. Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future?
Artificial Intelligence is an intellect, which is showed by software and machines. I think artificial intelligence can be a problem at any time of the day. Artificial Intelligence is everywhere today in the world such as in phones, computers and TV’s. As it was said in the video, “ The Codex Funeral”, its been said that its “ the future is not something enter”. If the intelligence gets into the wrong hands it can cause problems but if your careful how you deal with it wont have any problems. There is always new software’s updating and people just forget the entire old one or bad ones that they always had issues with. They think just having the newest software’s it will fix all problems, which are true, but its okay having old software but some old software wont is able in the future. With that saying just don’t let the technology get into a person wrong hands.
2.How has technology impacted your life?
Technology is the best thing ever, it has a huge impact on my life, and I think its every teenager favorite thing. I’m not huge on having all the newest technology just having a laptop, iPod and smartphone and I’m satisfied. I have to have my phone on me at all times and I’m on it most of the times. Technology keeps you update with the latest trends, lets you keep in touch with old and new friends. A while back I recently got a laptop, which helped me so much, because once I got my laptop I took my first online classes. It was so much easier because I can take it everywhere I go and work on any assignments. Even though I don’t have or want all the newest technology I always wonder what they’re going to make next in the future that will blow whatever last was.

1.Why are Faqir Chand’s experiences important in understanding the projective nature of religious visions and miracles?
Faqir Chand’s experiences are important because he was capable to live throughout his time in fear and that he going through a rough time but he was able to get something good in return. In the book “ The Unknowing Saga: The Life and Work of Faqir Chand”, it explains his journey in life and how he grew up and everything he remembers that happened while growing up. He mentions that the gurus of the strips were rude towards the miracles and visions.
2. What is meant by the phrase, "philosophy done well is science; philosophy done poorly remains philosophy."
The phrase “ philosophy done well is science; philosophy done poorly remains philosophy “means is that you must have science facts to back up any claims or any form. If you don’t use any evidence about what your saying, who is going to believe you? No one will, but they will believe it anyway. You must just science when looking up philosophy. Its also important to being able to have science any research you have done to show people you are telling the truth and don’t let them just think you lying about it. Also looking into science can help a better understanding of what’s been said.
